Circulation

The OISE Library collections

The OISE Library collections are  open to everyone.  Borrowing privileges, however, are restricted to current students, faculty, and staff of the University of Toronto, as well as to the following categories of library card holders:

  • Alumni Readers
  • Alumni Research Readers
  • OISE Alumni who have purchased the $200 per year borrowing card
  • Research Readers
  • Direct Borrowers

Please note that Curriculum Resource (C.R.) materials may ONLY be borrowed by the following categories of borrowers:

  • OISE students
  • OISE faculty
  • OISE staff
  • University of Toronto Concurrent Teacher Education Program (CTEP) students
  • Victoria College Egerton Ryerson Stream students
  • OISE Alumni who have purchased the $200 per year borrowing card

Loan Periods

Curriculum Resource (C.R.) materials

  • 14 days, 3 renewals --  all borrowers permitted to borrow C.R. materials (please see note above)

Books

  • Initial Teacher Education (ITE) Students  -  14 days, 3 renewals
  • Concurrent Teacher Education Program (CTEP) Students  - 14 days, 3 renewals
  • Victoria College Egerton Ryerson Stream Students - 14 days, 3 renewals
  • Graduate Students - 42 days, 3 renewals
  • Faculty - 42 days, 3 renewals
  • Staff - 42 days, 3 renewals

Videos (VC)

  • 14 days, 1 renewal -- all borrowers
  • Some items are restricted.

CD-ROMs

  • Loan periods vary

* The Alumni Reader and Alumni Research Reader cards must be purchased at the Reader Registration Desk located on the Ground Floor of the Robarts Library. 

** The OISE Alumni card must be purchased at the Circulation Desk on the Ground Floor of the OISE Library. 

*** The Research Reader and Direct Borrower cards must be purchased at the Reader Registration Desk on the Ground Floor of the Robarts Library.

Renewals

Renewals may be made in person at the Circulation Desk, by phone at 416-978-8450, or online by choosing "my.account" in the Quick Links drop-down menu on the U of T Libraries' home page.

Please note that you cannot renew an item which has been requested by another patron.

Requests/holds

A request for an item on loan to another borrower may be made at the Circulation Desk or online in the library catalogue by clicking on "Request Item" in the item's catalogue record.  An email will be sent when the item has been returned and is being held for you. Items will be held at the Circulation Desk for five days.

Recalls

Items requested by another borrower will be recalled after two weeks, regardless of loan period. A fine of $2.00 per day per item will be charged for recalled items not returned within 48 hours.

Missing items

Materials missing or not on the shelf will be searched for upon request.  Please visit the Circulation Desk and request a "missing item" form.

Fines

Fines are charged at the rate of:

  • $0.50 / day per book
  • $0.50 / hour per  item on Course Reserve
  • $5.00 / day per DVD or CD-ROM
  • $5.00 / day per DVD or CD-ROM
  • $2.00 / day per recalled item 

Library privileges will be withheld when fines are $25 or more.

Please note that some libraries may charge different fines for other types of materials.

  • In person: Visit the circulation desk of any library
  • By telephone: 416-978-8450

Please note that medical or other documentation is normally required to reduce or forgive fines. Without documentation, fines are normally not excused for the following reasons:

  • Did not renew item on time
  • Forgot the due date
  • Did not receive a courtesy or overdue notice
  • Was not able to renew online
  • Was unaware of library policies
  • Borrowed the item for someone else
  • Returned late by someone else
  • Did not report TCard stolen

It is the responsibility of the patron to ensure that the library has his / her current contact information on file.  Overdue notices will be emailed to patrons when an item is 7 days overdue.

Lost and damaged book charges

Lost library materials are subject to a $145 replacement fee.  The library reserves the right to charge fines in addition to the replacement cost.

Damaged library materials are subject to a $45 fee.  The library reserves the right to charge fines in addition to the replacement cost.

Document Actions
